Flooded farmland with standing water across paddocks, recorded from the air

Overview

A record of the site on the day.

Factum Aerial produces a dated aerial record of storm, hail, flood and fire damage, site incidents, property condition and the subject of a dispute. Each image carries the time, date and position at which it was captured. The record is made for owners, insurers, loss adjusters, assessors, strata managers, solicitors and businesses who need to show the state of a property or site as it was on a particular day.

Factum Aerial is the aerial arm of the Factum group, alongside Factum Investigations, licensed private investigators based in Newcastle. The aerial record stands on its own, and it is prepared so it can be handed to an assessor, engineer or solicitor as it is.

Uses

Where the record is used.

Storm and weather damage

Roofs, gutters, fences, trees and surrounding grounds after hail, wind or heavy rain. Captured soon after the event, while the damage is as it was found.

Fire

The extent of burnt structures, vegetation and surrounds, recorded from above so the full footprint is visible in a single frame.

Flood

Water levels, inundation lines and debris across a property or precinct, with position data showing where each image was taken.

Site incidents

The state of a worksite, plant and surrounds following an incident, recorded before clean-up or repair changes the scene.

Property condition

The condition of a building, roof, yard or boundary on a given date, for pre-settlement, lease, dilapidation or handover records.

Disputes

Fences, boundaries, encroachments, drainage, trees and neighbouring works, shown in context with the surrounding land.

What we deliver.

Image and video quality, resolution, formats and outputs are discussed and agreed for each job.

  • Dated and geotagged stills, edited, supplied as JPEG with RAW on request
  • Edited video, with raw footage on request
  • An orthomosaic map of the site where the area or extent of damage matters
  • Before and after comparisons where earlier imagery exists or a return visit is arranged
  • An annotated image set, with the capture time, date and position noted for each item

Process

How it works.

01

A short conversation

We talk through what happened, where, and who the record is for. We then scope the flight and send a written quote.

02

Planning the flight

Flights are planned around the site, the airspace and the weather. We confirm access with the owner or site contact and set the capture positions before we arrive.

03

On site

We fly a systematic pattern over the area, recording wide, context and detail images with the time, date and position embedded in each file. Nothing on the ground is moved or touched.

04

Delivery

Files are edited for exposure and colour only, with the content of each frame left as captured, and supplied as an annotated set. Stills are typically delivered within two business days; video within five.

Limits

A record, not an opinion.

The aerial record is a visual account of a site on a given date. It shows what was visible from the air at the time, and it does not replace a professional inspection, an engineering assessment or a registered survey. Where the matter calls for that work, the imagery is supplied in a form that can be read alongside it.

Common questions

Insurance & Incident Documentation, answered.

How soon after an event can you fly?
We respond to every enquiry within one business day. The flight itself depends on weather, airspace and site access, and the quote states the earliest window we can offer. Where clean-up or repair is about to start, we work to the earliest safe window so the scene is recorded as found.
How is the date and location of each image recorded?
Each still carries the capture time, date and GPS position in its metadata. The annotated set lists the same details for every item. The two can be read side by side without any further processing.
Do you provide opinions on the cause of damage?
No. We supply the imagery, the map where ordered and the annotated image set. Interpretation of cause, cost or structural condition sits with the assessor, engineer or trade who reviews the record.
Where do you work?
Based in Newcastle. Servicing Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the Hunter, Port Stephens, Sydney and regional NSW by arrangement. Every job is scoped and quoted after a short conversation.
